WA must redraw Yakima Valley legislative map

Alabama and Ohio aren't the only states whose redistricting has run afoul of the courts. You can add Washington state to the list, too.

On Thursday, a federal judge ruled that the boundaries of the 15th Legislative District, which includes much of Yakima city east to Pasco, has deprived Latino voters of an equal opportunity to elect who they want.

According to the Seattle Times, Lasnik’s ruling says the state can reconvene the disbanded state Redistricting Commission to revise the 15th District map but must get that done by the time the Legislature’s regular 2024 session starts in January.

Because Klickitat County is situated within the 14th LD adjacent to LD 15, the judge's ruling means that our own LD borders will almost certainly be impacted. What will that impact be, and will we be able to have any influence on the process? Stay tuned into our email alerts, and we'll share the answers as they're decided.
