Doug White jumps into the race to represent CD 4

Yakima County farmer and restauranteur Doug White announced on October 9 that he is running as a Democrat for Congress in Washington State's Fourth Congressional District. For the past ten years, White's announcement would have counted as a side-note in Klickitat County politics, but with new Congressional districts on the horizon, CD 4 candidates will likely jump into the forefront of our attention.

All four commissioners on the state's Redistricting Commission have released proposed maps that move Klickitat County from CD 3 to CD 4. There remains a possibility that our county could be returned to CD 3 when the final CD maps are adopted, but such an outcome appears highly improbable.

Doug's roots in the Yakima and Tri-Cities area go back to his great grandparents, who migrated to Washington and grew hops. His grandparents owned a fruit orchard and cattle ranch. Now he runs his own "Food to Table" operation, owning both a farm and a restaurant.

He lists as key issues the preservation of water, immigration reform, and infrastructure, particularly projects that provide "safe, clean and sustainable energy.

Doug will join the Klickitat County Democrats via Zoom at our December 6 quarterly meeting. You can find out more about him on his website.
