It's time for canvassing!
The Klickitat County Democrats are launching their "Who's Blue" 2023 Canvassing Campaign a week from today on July 1 in White Salmon. Other scheduled dates are July 15 in Goldendale, July 29 in Bingen, Aug. 5 in Lyle and Dallesport, Aug. 12 in White Salmon, and Aug. 26 in Goldendale. You can sign up to canvass on any of these dates on this link.
As our campaign title suggests, our goal is to find voters who lean Democrat so that we can contact them in the fall to encourage them to vote. Our county has many school board races slated for the fall, and as in many places in our nation, we face the very real possibility of right-wing takeovers. We'll need all the votes we can get. Our efforts will be connected to the state Democrats' database, so that voters who indicate they vote for Democrats will receive party "points" to help us target them in the fall.
We'll be knocking on the doors of females aged 18-35 about whom the state Democrats' database has "no data." We're selecting this demographic because research indicates that younger voters tend to vote Democrat, and female younger voters are much more likely than males to vote Democrat.
If you've canvassed before, we think you'll enjoy this year's focus. If you haven't canvassed before, we'll provide you with training and support, and we'll pair you with an experienced canvasser. Research indicates that canvassing is the most effective strategy for influencing voters' choices and decisions to vote.
This coming Saturday, July 1, we'll meet at 9:30 at Northshore Cafe on Jewett Street in White Salmon. We'll buy you a coffee drink, engage in some training, divide into teams, and then go knock on doors. We'll be finished by noon at the latest. Please check out our Who's Blue Schedule and sign up for canvasses at this link.
