Black Lives Matter Statement
On July 6, 2020 the membership of the Klickitat Democratic Party (KCDP) approved the following statement in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Recent events have spotlighted again the systemic racism of our history, our politics and particularly, our justice system. We acknowledge that racism is widely present in Klickitat County and the United States, against Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). The KCDP stands with BIPOC in their quest for Justice.
The Klickitat County Democratic Party is committed to elect democrats who support the value of equality and equity and who will work toward policies and laws that bring about this democratic ideal as part of our cultural, economic and civic lives.
We support nonviolent protest and activist politics; we endorse Barack Obama’s words: “If we want to bring about real change, then the choice is not between protest and politics. We have to do both. We have to mobilize to raise awareness, and we have to organize and cast our ballots to make sure we elect candidates who will act on reform.”*
